The story of Dr. Cecilia (Cilla) Downie

Cilla Downie was born and raised in Scotland, UK. After completing her medical degree at the University of Aberdeen, Cilla lived in Deep River and in Ottawa working at the Ottawa Hospital until 1979 when she returned to Scotland and became a partner and General Practitioner at Glenwood Health Centre in Glenrothes, Scotland, UK.  She continued working in her practice until she retired in 2005.

Cilla Downie lost her brave but brief battle with inflammatory breast cancer on June 5, 2009. Although only diagnosed in September, 2008 she struggled through rounds of chemotherapy and surgery only to be told that the breast cancer had spread to her liver.  She had treated many for cancer during her career and regardless of her knowledge she didn’t lose hope for her success.

She will be remembered for her caring nature and loving generosity. She was a world traveler and a keen golfer. She is survived by her 3 children, Colette, Lorraine and Mandy and 7 Grandchildren, Jake, Ciaran, Nicole, Aidan, Callum, Drew and Niall.

She would have appreciated and supported the Team DOWNIE efforts to raise money and cure this disease!
